Best Folding EBikes – Folding EBikes are an excellent choice if you have limited storage space. They’re easy to transport in a car or SUV without needing a hitch rack, making them perfect for travel. You can even keep one in an RV for exploring once you reach your destination.
But with so many options available—from heavy-duty fat tire bikes to lightweight, compact street models—how do you choose the best folding ebike for you? It’s important to consider what suits your needs and lifestyle to find the perfect fit.
Mokwheel Slate
The Mokwheel Slate is Mokwheel’s take on the popular folding ebike trend. It features a 48-volt, 15 Ah battery paired with a 500-watt motor. The bike uses a torque sensor to deliver smooth, responsive power. Its 20 x 3-inch wheels provide a comfortable ride while being lighter and less bulky than the 4-inch wheels often found on other folding ebikes.
The Slate includes a removable LED display, which functions like an anti-theft feature found on car stereo faceplates. When the display is removed, the bike cannot be powered on, making it harder for thieves to use the motor system. While the bike could still be stolen, removing the display ensures that the motor won’t operate without it.
For braking, the Slate is equipped with hydraulic disc brakes, which offer superior stopping power and a smoother feel compared to traditional cable pull brakes. Additionally, the rear lights can function as turn signals when controlled through the bike’s controller.

The Lectric XP 3.0 takes everything great about the popular Lectric XP 2.0 and enhances it. It offers increased torque, better suspension travel, and stronger braking power, all while remaining very affordable.
At just $1000, the XP 3.0 delivers features you might expect from a bike costing $3000-$4000. Lectric keeps the price low by selling a large volume of these bikes. You can choose between a step-thru or a traditional frame design to fit your preference.

The controller and electronics have been upgraded from the previous model, resulting in improved acceleration and easier pedaling at higher speeds due to taller gearing.

Featuring 20 x 2.4 inch wheels with street tread and a 500-watt motor, this bike is designed for urban environments and weighs just 55 lbs. This bike is light and nimble, offering smooth acceleration. The 500-watt motor performs effectively on lighter wheels that use less power. It includes an 8-speed pedal drivetrain with a twist shifter for easy gear changes.
The cadence sensor is highly responsive, activating with just a quarter turn of the cranks. The 5 levels of pedal assist (PAS) provide a range of speeds and power outputs. The Heybike Mars 2.0 is a powerful, foldable electric bike designed for off-road adventures. It supports up to 330 lbs and offers a range of 45-60 miles, with a top speed of 28 mph.
Equipped with a 750-watt rear hub motor that can peak at around 1200 watts, the Mars 2.0 has ample power to handle steep hills and heavier riders with ease. It also features a 7-speed Shimano drivetrain to assist with climbing when needed.
The bike boasts 20-inch wheels with 4-inch wide tires, providing excellent stability and a smooth ride. It includes front suspension and a suspension seat post to enhance comfort. For better traction and cushioning on rough surfaces, you can adjust the tire pressure.
For braking, it uses mechanical disc brakes that offer good stopping power. While not as advanced as hydraulic brakes, they are effective for most situations.
The Mars 2.0 folds up for convenient storage and transport in your car. However, it weighs 75 lbs, making it cumbersome to carry when not in use. Removing the battery can reduce the weight, but the bike remains heavy.

It features a smooth and responsive torque sensor, which enhances its performance. The bike comes with a color LCD display that connects to a phone app for easy setting adjustments. Ride1Up Portola
The Ride1Up Portola is the latest offering from Ride1Up and marks their debut in the folding bike market. This bike packs impressive features into a compact design. It comes with a powerful 750-watt motor, a heavy-duty rear rack that’s welded to the frame, hydraulic disc brakes, and two battery options. Plus, it uses a Shimano Altus derailleur and shifter instead of the lower-end Shimano Tourney. All of this is available for under $1000.
The Portola folds right in front of the crank, which allows you to remove the battery even when the frame is folded or unfolded. You can choose between a 10.4 Ah and a 13.4 Ah battery, providing a range of up to 45 miles. Out of the box, it’s set up as a Class 2 e-bike with a top speed of 20 mph, but it can be upgraded to a Class 3 e-bike with pedal assist up to 28 mph. It features a 24-magnet cadence sensor, offering highly responsive performance.
Weighing in at 60 lbs, the Portola is still on the heavy side, but it’s relatively light for a bike with front suspension, a robust rear rack, and a long-range battery.
